Pursuant to the Iowa Open Records Law (Code Chapter 22), I hereby request the following records:
Any email sent or received by any member of the Iowa Department of Public Safety between the dates of August 23, 2016 and October 5, 2016 which contains the words "protest" "protests" "protester" or "protesters."
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Would it be possible to narrow your search terms? Such as "pipeline protest" "pipeline protestors"

We are currently trying to narrow the search to include the word pipeline. When we get the estimated cost, we will let you know. Right now with over 4,000 emails, it would take an enormous amount of time to redact and go through all of them.
The first hour is free, after that it would be the hourly rate of the employee doing the redacting.

Checking again to see if we could suggest in modifying your request for search terms.
Having "pipeline and protest" may yield a more manageable result than the 4,200 emails with the words "protest, protester, protests and protestors"
Your thoughts?
Currently we have found 51 emails containing "#NoDAPL"
