Ms. Nason,
Reference your attached request received 02/17/2017, please be advised that this request is in reference to creating statistics, which is not a public record document.
According to F.S.S. 119, public records are records in various forms that we currently hold, and have been created during the course of normal business.
If you would like copies of certain reports, please state which reports you would like copies of, and the date range your request encompasses.
Please be advised that all reports requested will be subject to redaction charges based on public records laws in the state of Florida.

I will be happy to provide you with policies and procedures internally for firearms, but this will only apply to our employees; as we do not handle public firearm license issuing at this agency.

Hi,

Do you happen to keep track of how many firearms-related homicides, assaults, and other incidents there have been in a given year, as well as how many firearms are registered? That is the data I am looking for.

Thanks,
Vanessa

Hi,

Thank you for this information. According to your 2015 UCR, the number of aggravated assaults with a firearm was 128. (http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/cms/FSAC/UCR/2015/Counties/Hernando15.aspx)

I'm wondering what accounts for this discrepancy? How did you find those numbers, and what numbers are compiled for the year-end UCR? Also, what encompasses "homicide?" On the UCR it only includes "murder."

Thanks,
Vanessa

From: Erickson, Lana

My apologies.
The form I pulled was a few days before we actually submitted UCR.
We do several test runs before we actually submit the data to ensure there are no errors in our submission.

I did not check the website first, so there were probably adjustments made before submission.
What is on the UCR site is correct.

I am attaching the UCR manual that explains how we review the crimes to determine UCR coding.
If you need anything else let me know.

Have a good weekend.

Makes sense. Thank you so much!

From: Vanessa Nason

Hi,

quick question - am I correct in my understanding that your sheriff's department isn't the only law enforcement agency in Hernando County to submit data to FDLE for UCRs? Meaning that your department and other law enforcement agencies all collect data, and that is totaled by FDLE, which may account for this discrepancy in data?

Thanks,
Vanessa

From: Erickson, Lana

I know that the Brooksville Police Department also reports, but no other agencies reach out to me for any data for reporting.
