Pursuant to the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All documents relating to usage of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology by Greenville County Sheriff's Department, including but not limited to documents indicating:

-scope of ALPR deployment;
-purposes for which ALPR technology is employed;
-means of handling and storing ALPR data;
-extent and timeline for ALPR data storage; and
-protocols and extent of ALPR data sharing between GCSO and other government agencies.

Please include any relevant documents, including but not limited to memos, reports, emails, meeting minutes and contracts.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 15 business days, as the statute requires.

I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on Dec. 19, 2013. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response, or if further clarification is needed.

Good Morning-

Thank you for your email regarding your FOIA request. Lt. Miller is in
court this morning and I am replying to you on her behalf. We are
finalizing our response to your record request. The SC FOIA provides
that we have 15 days from the date of the receipt of the request, not
including weekends or holidays to respond. By this email, we are within
the statute and in compliance by notifying you that there are available
records that will be provided to you. As a public body covered by FOIA,
and as permitted by the statute we have established standard fees for
FOIA requests which are $20.00 per hour for research and preparation,
.10 per each printed page, and $2.00 for each CD required to preserve a
copy by digital record. The fee for this request is $22.00. As permitted
by the FOIA we would require payment by check or money order payable to
the Greenville County Sheriff's Office before providing the record. As
soon as payment is received, the records will be sent to you via
Certified U.S. Mail. In addition to Lt. Miller, you may contact me with
any questions.
