Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

- A list of all Internal Affairs Unit investigations opened between November 2017 and August 2018

- Records generated by an Internal Affairs Unit investigation into a DOC officer's membership in the white supremacist group "Vanguard America." The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Dear Mr. O'Connor,

I am writing in response to your Open Records Request to the Department dated September 5, 2018. You requested:

- A list of all Internal Affairs Unit investigations opened between November 2017 and August 2018

- Records generated by an Internal Affairs Unit investigation into a DOC officer's membership in the white supremacist group "Vanguard America."

I can confirm that there was an investigation and the employee resigned. However, investigation reports and intelligence data prepared by the Department’s Office of Professional Standards are classified as confidential state secrets and privileged under law. O.C.G.A. § 42-5-36 (b). Therefore, they are not subject to release under the Open Records Act. O.C.G.A. § 50-18-71(a).
