Active Shooter Policies (Broward County Public Schools)

Thank you for contacting the Risk Management's Public Records Office. Pursuant to the Public Records Act of the Sunshine Law, it provides the right of access to inspect or copy existing records which includes, but not limited to, all documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, photographs, films, sound recordings, data processing software, or other material, regardless of the physical form, characteristics, or means of transmission, made or received pursuant to the law or ordinance or in connection with the transaction of official business by any agency." It does not mandate the agency to create new records in order to accommodate a request for information. Good morning. Please review responses below in red and attachments. Additional information is still pending.

-Expense reports related to the shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018, including costs related to any victim lawsuits (see attached), building repairs (pending information from custodian), legal fees (see attached), medical expenses, trauma counseling (pending information from custodian), media consultants, accountants who handled charitable contributions, reconstruction (pending information from custodian), insurance policies (see attached) etc.

-Any active shooter/active assailant insurance policies - The District does not have an active shooter insurance policy.

-Any student safety policies related to an active shooter/active assailant - This request is respectfully declined as any records relating to active shooter exercises are confidential and exempt from disclosure under Section 119.07(1), Florida Statutes, pursuant to Section 281.301(1), Florida Statutes.

Would you please clarify Public records request 18/19-00080 as to the definition of “Expense Reports”? In the general business community this means reimbursable expense reports submitted by employees. Would you please confirm that is the intent of the requestor?
