Dear Records Officer,

Pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Act, I hereby request any and all material related to Case No. 2012-113083, including, but not limited to, all reports, photos, affidavits, search warrants, and recordings of 911 calls.

The case involves the shooting death of Dequan Walker-Smith, DOB 09-25-93, on 3-19-2012 at the intersection of East. 29th and Franklin Street. Mannie LeGrand was convicted of first-degree murder for the crime.

I submitted a request for documents related to this case earlier this year but narrowed the scope of the request after speaking with Mary Dulacki. I attached the documents supplied in response to that request for your reference.

The request I am making today is for any and all other available material related to this case, as it will likely makeup a large part of a story that my news organization plans on publishing this year.

I am a reporter with The Trace, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization. I am making this request through MuckRock's public records management system, which I use to better track and streamline my requests. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

While I prefer to receive the records electronically, if standard mail is required for any reason, please use the following address:

The Trace
Attn: Brian Freskos
195 Montague Street, 14th Floor
Brooklyn, New York 11201

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brian Freskos

Brian-

Homicide files are extremely large and are maintained in hardcopy. Any production will take time and time translates into money; we charge $30 per hour after the first hour for retrieval, review and redaction. Perhaps we could start with the Supplementary report and any affidavits or search warrants from the case. We would not release crime scene photos of any graphic nature, and in Denver we do not release 911 call recordings without the permission of the individual who placed the call.

Hi Mary,

Yes, let's narrow it to just the supplementary reports, affidavits and search warrants. Thank you so much! Brian
