To Whom It May Concern:
Please consider the following a request pursuant to the Colorado Open Records Act and the
Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act.

If you are not the proper custodian of records for this request, please forward this request on to the appropriate designee.

I am requesting all “Official Action” records held by the Denver Police Department related to a protest on July 14, 2015 held in response to the Paul Castaway shooting.

To help clarify my request and provide context for the records custodian, here are some various online news links relevant to protest activity on this date:

Again, I am requesting all official action records (including all records of any arrests, indictments, releases from custody, parole decisions, sentencing decisions, and dispositions of cases) related to protest activity on July 14, 2015.

If you deny this request for records in whole or in part, I ask that you provide a written statement explaining the reason for the denial that cites the legal authority that is the basis for the denial. If any of the requested records are in active use, in storage or otherwise unavailable at this time, I likewise request that you provide a statement informing me of the reason they are currently unavailable and a date and hour at which time the records will be available for inspection.

I kindly ask that the custodian handle this request as a separate matter from any other requests I have made or will make, and that any information about the availability of records or fees to produce records related to this request be conveyed in a manner specific to this request, and not combined with information from other requests I have made or will make.

I also request that fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Christopher Schiano
