Pursuant to the Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
A copy of all use of force reports reported by this law enforcement agency from 2016-2021, specifying the date of incident, race of subjects and type of force used, preferably in spreadsheet format. If one of more items requested are unavailable, please provide the remaining requested items.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Good morning:
Our department is in receipt of your records request. As per your instructions, the fees would be $15 per hour (first hour free) and .15 cents per page printing fee.
To obtain these statistics, we would utilize the Rhode Island State Police website: https://riucr.nibrs.com/ReportsIndex/List
This website is available to the public free of charge. However, the statistics only go back as far as January 1, 2017 (you requested 2016).
You may want to consider by-passing our department to save the fees and simply use the website yourself. The decision is up to you.
Please advise as to how you wish to proceed.

Hi, thanks for sending this link. However, I don’t see data related to police use of force listed at that link. It looks to be only data involving reported crime and arrests. Is there a link to use of force data as well?

We are in receipt of your correspondence dated 04/25/22 and received by CPD dated 05/03/22.
Please see the attached report from 2020, and advise if this report is sufficient for your request. Individual arrest reports can be provided, but note there are hundreds in this time frame which will require several weeks to redact. The hours required to fulfill this request will be significant, and will incur the $15 per hours fee allow by law. If the attached graph is acceptable, then I will forward you the remainder of these documents
