To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

1) The total number of firearms reported stolen to your department in 2015.

2) The total number of firearms reported stolen from motor vehicles to your department in 2015.

I submitted on July 21 and 22 requests for police reports related to the theft of firearms from motor vehicles and asking for the total number of automobile burglaries in 2015. If you have not already completed that request, please complete this one first if possible.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Ben Hallman

Ok thank please just let me know.

From: Ben Hallman

Hi Lisa, did you ever hear back?

From: CCPDOpenRecords

Mr. Ben Hallman and Mr. Brian Freskos,

In response to your request our department does not currently maintain the data in the format you have requested.

According to our Crime Analyst once a reported stolen firearm is updated in our system as recovered, it removes it from the stolen numbers. So when she ran the report for firearms stolen from vehicles for 2015 the number is 183. But this is the number that are still listed as stolen as of the date the report is ran not the total number of firearms stolen from a vehicle in 2015.

Thank you Lisa. Can you also provide me with the total number of firearms that were stolen from all sources (businesses, residences, cars, etc.) for 2015?

From: CCPDOpenRecords

Mr. Brian Freskas,

I have responsive data for you. I do want to remind you that on 8/12/16, Lisa Newell sent you an email advising that our department does not maintain the data in the format you have requested. Also, she explained to you that once the firearm is recovered in the system, and removed from a stolen status, we cannot retrieve the historical code of "stolen".

With this in said, ,the raw data for all weapons that are still coded as stolen in 2015 is ready, the charge for this data is $23.44. I have attached an invoice for your records.

Once payment is received I will email this data to you.

If you have any questions, please call or email me.
