Dan,

I have received your Public Records Act request.

I am seeking clarification on your request.

You are asking for "a list of all deaths" - Do you just want a list of all of the names only?

I am unclear of the circumstances. You wrote "in custody" but in the same sentence put - "during any law enforcement interaction", "while being arrested", "in transport", and "inmate."

Those are different. Are you looking for "in custody" only, i.e. those incidents occurring at the jails?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for getting in touch.

I'm using in-custody death the way the California DOJ does, but I've been realizing lately that it it can be unclear. So to clarify, I'm looking for a list, with the dates, of all individuals who died:

(1) in the process of arrest by the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office
(2) by use of force by the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office
(3) in the temporary custody of the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office
(4) while incarcerated in any correctional facility operated or managed by the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office

Please let me know if I can provide any further clarification and thanks for your help.

Best,
Dan
