- All communications between members of this office and employees or representatives of the American Legislative Exchange Council.
- All communications containing the keywords "ALEC" or "American Legislative Exchange Council".
- Any files or documents attached to the above communications.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

This message is for Alex Richardson.
I am trying to get a hold of a phone number for this organization to discuss this CORA request. We are gathering responsive documents but I would like to ask for an extension as one of our attorneys that could possibly have the most on ALEC is out of town until tonight. We would like to ask for an extension until COB Wednesday, May 20. Also, with that being said, the original CORA request did not have any dates on it. Do you want all communications since 2012? Or all the way back to…? We just ask for some clarification so we are not including non-responsive documents because they are outdated.

Hi Mr. Lamb,
Thanks for getting back to me so promptly! We're a pretty small org., so the best bet for a phone number is probably my personal cell phone during working hours (301-793-0996).
The extension is no problem at all. Could I get all docs going back to 2010? Take a look anyway, and if it starts to look like the scope is getting unreasonably broad we can work together to narrow it down.

Mr. Richardson:
Attached is the only responsive document for your CORA request from our office currently. To go back to 2010, out IT department will have to do a full program search as many of the people who might have something left in late 2010. Searching for keyword “ALEC” will produce a lot of false positives and will make the search go on for longer. If there is something specific you are looking for I recommend giving me that otherwise it will get very expensive (hundreds of dollars on the low end).
Let me know how you would like me to proceed.

Thanks for the candor. Let's modify the request as follows to see if we can make this easier.
- Date range 2010 to present.
- Electronic communications containing the keyword "American Legislative Exchange Council"
- Electronic communications to/from an email address ending "@alec.org"
Take a look at that and see how many docs come back, then we can talk about further narrowing or release depending on how things look. By the way, does Colorado have provisions to waive fees for media requestors or for requests in the public interest? If so, I would like to request that one or both be applied for this request.
