From: Collier County MEDICAL EXAMINER
Good morning,
In July I corresponded with Mr. Matt Kiefer in your agency and explained the Medical Examiner’s involvement in Florida regarding COVID-19 during that time frame and provided him with an excel spreadsheet maintained in our office to facilitate the request. See attached email that provides detailed explanations of the excel sheet and may answer any current questions about the process.
Since that correspondence, the Florida Medical Examiners Commission issued on August 14, 2020 notification that Medical Examiners in Florida will no longer assume jurisdiction of deaths due to COVID-19, unless the death meets other jurisdiction criteria, such as death due to trauma, violence, acute intoxications, accidental deaths, etc. in accordance with Fl.S. 406.
Attached is our last and final version of the COVID-19 spreadsheet for Collier County. In the future, please contact the Department of Health for further inquiries on COVID-19 statistics for deaths that occur after August 14, 2020.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Alfonso Nunez
