Hello, I am again following up on this FOIA request, which has gone without a response for over two months.

From: Chicago Police Department

Good Morning,

We sincerely apologize for the delay. Attached is a page that breaks down the number of emails per search term for your request. It has over 1,000 results. Is it possible that you can narrow your request, otherwise it would be extremely burdensome for us to provide. We suggest submitting terms that are less generic and more specific. As well as narrow the timeframe. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

FOIA Unit

From: Invisible Institute

Hello, thank you for the provided count. However, as I am not seeking the contents of the emails but simply the sender, receiver(s), date, and subject line, I do not think this would make the request unduly burdensome. Please let me know if I may be missing something.

Thank you

From: Chicago Police Department

Good Morning,

The sender, receiver information would be just as voluminous as the emails. It is not a single page document like an excel spreadsheet. It would be several sheets for each email, especially if the email was sent to the entire department. Say you have 1,000 emails, it would be at minimum a page for each email. As I said sometimes more per email, depending on how many receivers. And in that 1,000 pages, there would still need to be redactions made if the emails were sent to people who are covered in our exceptions. So even though you're not asking for the emails, it would see be burdensome on us. I hope this clarifies that process a bit. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Sincerely,

Foia Unit
