To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 to 11), I hereby request the following records:
A Law Department lawyer told City Council in April 2016 that Johnson had been through “the same level of scrutiny and review” as candidates vetted by the Police Board, according to an Aldertrack report. I request the following documents related to that scrutiny and review:
• A description of the vetting process Eddie Johnson was subjected to before being confirmed as Superintendent of the CPD
• The names of who vetted Johnson
• The names of any and all CPD documents or materials reviewed during the vetting process. (This is not requesting the contents of the documents, simply their titles, eg Tactical Response Report or Complaint Register.)
• The names of any third-party groups, bodies, or organizations engaged in any way in the vetting process
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
