To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act., I hereby request the following records:

Please provide me with a copy of the data within the mysql database associated with datadictionary.cityofchicago.org. The data may need to come from a backup, as the database may not be running.

The underlying schema of the database in question has already been made public, through its MIT licensed code, which can be found on Github at: https://github.com/Chicago/metalicious. Furthermore, the information within the database has already been reviewed under the same review workflow as FOIA. From Tom Schenk on the Chi Hack Night slack:
"Metalicious was retired because of lack of resources to expand it (originally grant funded). It had some, but very, very small proportion of databases. There was security review of any published data and some information was withheld if we felt it could undermine the application security. By Info Sec policy, it is confidential information until a review deems it appropriate for public release--same as the open data workflow which mirrors the FOIA workflow."

It is also worth noting that DoIT is the manager of the database in question:
https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/doit/provdrs/data_sciences.html
"[..]The team also manages the city’s data dictionary, a directory of databases kept in the city with detailed information on data stored within those systems."

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Matt Chapman - Free Our Info, NFP

Hi - that doesn't look to be a complete database dump. For example, it's missing the stored procedures that are required for metalicious to be functional (for example, 'User__Validate_Login') . Is there a way that your department could provide the full dump or create a new one if necessary?

From: Matt Chapman

Scratch that - was able to get it working using the empty database dump found on github.
