To Whom It May Concern:

I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on Jan. 6, 2015. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response, or if further clarification is needed.

Thank you for your help.

From: UC Berkeley Public Records Office

Dear Mr. Nash:

This will acknowledge and respond to your Public Records Act request below.
The University regularly responds to focused and effective requests that
reasonably describe identifiable records relating to the conduct of the
public’s business. Government Code Section 6252(e), 6253.1(a).

Your records request, as currently drafted is extremely broad, and
compliance with the request would be unduly burdensome pursuant to
Government Code Section 6255. Your request would entail collection and
review of a voluminous number of documents. Please also be aware that
identification and collection of potentially responsive records is only the
first step in the Public Records Act response process. The collected
records must be reviewed to ensure that they are in fact responsive to your
request and to assess whether they are subject to redaction to protect
privacy rights and consistent with applicable legal privileges and
exemptions.

Because we would like to furnish you with a set of information that could
satisfy your needs, we would encourage you to consider narrowing the scope
or nature of the request. Although we cannot compile records in response
to your request as drafted, we would be happy to consider a request that is
more narrowly tailored in terms of time frame and subject matter, including
whose records (for example, the name of person or department, types of
agreements) you may be seeking.

Please let us know how we can assist you in focusing your request.

Regards,

Liane Ko

Hi Ms. Ko,

Let's go ahead and limit the scope of this request to one arrangement for now: any contract or agreement between NVIDIA and the Berkeley Vision and Learning Center issued between 2010 and Jan. 1, 2015.

Thanks so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

Tom

Hi there,

If you could also provide any contracts, MOUs or agreements that established the “Open Innovation Leveraging IBM Watson” class that started in fall 2014 I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Tom

From: UC Berkeley Public Records Office

Dear Mr. Nash:

Thank you for your e-mail to narrow your records request. This will
acknowledge and respond to your Public Records Act request below.
Appropriate offices are being notified of your request. Records identified
as responsive to your request will be reviewed, and made available for your
access, in accordance with relevant law and University policy. The
estimated date of production is at least 8 weeks, which will vary
accordingly due to the nature, complexity, and/or length of the request.
Whenever possible we will provide records on a rolling basis, as they
become available. It is our practice to notify outside companies when their
records may be requested under public disclosure laws and to furnish them a
reasonable opportunity to identify information contained therein that may
constitute business proprietary information.

Although the requested records have not yet been fully gathered and
reviewed, it is possible that the requested material may contain
information exempt from disclosure pursuant to the Public Records Act.
However, this is not a determination that the requested records are
necessarily exempt from disclosure. This office will provide you with a
status update after the requested records have been thoroughly reviewed.

Please note that the California Public Records Act allows agencies to make
records available “upon payment of fees covering direct costs of
duplication.” (Government Code Section 6253(b)). The charge for disclosable
records are normally provided at a cost of $0.20 per page for scanned or
paper copy, and will be sent upon receipt of payment of all
scanning/copying costs.

Liane Ko
