Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (California Government Code §§ 6250), I hereby request the following records:

All crash reports filed by CHP officers for incidents involving vehicles manufactured by Tesla Motors that took place between January 1, 2015 and July 26, 2016 inclusive.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Dear Mr. Simonite:

The Department of California Highway Patrol (Department) received your request for public records pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CPRA) (Gov. Code, § 6250 et seq.).

In your request, dated July 26, 2016, you asked for copies of the following records:

All crash reports filed by CHP officers for incidents involving vehicles manufactured by Tesla Motors that took place between January 1, 2015 and July 26, 2016 inclusive.
The Department is determining whether you seek copies of disclosable public records in the Department's possession. This will require consultation, which shall be conducted with all practicable speed, with another agency having substantial interest in the determination of this request. Accordingly, the Department is extending its 10-day response timeframe by an additional 14 days, as authorized by Government Code section 6253, subdivision (c).

On or before Friday, August 19, 2016, the Department will notify you of its determination regarding your request. If you have any questions related to the content of this notification, please direct them to this office.

Dear Mr. Simonite:

The Department of California Highway Patrol (Department) received your California Public Records Act (CPRA) request, dated July 26, 2016. Your CPRA request was received by this office via electronic mail on July 26, 2016. Please accept this notification of the Department's determination regarding your request.

In your request, you asked for copies of the following records:

* "All crash reports filed by CHP officers for incidents involving vehicles manufactured by Tesla Motors that took place between January 1, 2015 and July 26, 2016 inclusive."

The Department has determined that it possesses public records that are responsive to your request, and has compiled a 14-page set of records. This set of records consists of two (2) traffic collision reports. The Department is withholding complete copies of these records on the basis of Government Code section 6254, subdivision (f). However, the Department will provide you with public information from these records in accordance with Government Code section 6254, subdivision (f)(2).

Attorney Timothy Schreck, in the Department's Office of Legal Affairs, is responsible for the legal determination to withhold certain information from public disclosure.

To offset its duplication costs, the Department currently charges requesters a duplication fee of $0.30 per page or $5.00 per compact disc (CD) for records.

Therefore, if you wish to receive this set of redacted records, please forward a check in the amount of $4.20 for printed out, hard copies, or $5.00 for electronic copies on CD. Please send payment to the California Highway Patrol, Office of Community Outreach and Media Relations, P.O. Box 942898, Sacramento, CA 94298-0001 (Attention: Janelle F. Dunham). Please make the check payable to the "California Highway Patrol." Once the Department receives this payment, these records will be prepared and mailed to you on an expedited basis.
