Dear Mr. Waltman:

California State Parks ("State Parks") acknowledges your California Public Records Act (“CPRA”) request for records, received via electronic mail by State Parks’ Legal Office on March 28, 2017. You have requested the following:

“Arrest reports, incident reports including those from the responding K-9 units, Situational Awareness reports, Open Source Intelligence reports, Field Analysis Reports, and any other Intelligence reports, photographs, and any records relating to the deployment of equipment or special units, that were compiled in relation to the Trump rally on Bolsa Chica State Beach, Huntington Beach, CA. The at times violent events unfolded on the afternoon of March 25th 2017.”

You indicated in your email that you are making your request pursuant to the CPRA (Government Code section 6250 et seq.). State Parks is obligated to provide an initial response to such requests within 10 days of its receipt pursuant to Government Code section 6253(c). This response, therefore, is timely.

State Parks is conducting a review of records responsive to your request. State Parks anticipates that these records may require some time to extract, assemble, copy, and review. State Parks estimates these records can be made available by April 28, 2017.

The usual cost of duplication is thirty cents ($.30) for a standard 8 ½ x 11 inch page. The cost of duplication of all other records is the direct cost of duplication. Once we have identified the records we believe are responsive to your request and determined the total cost of duplicating the records, you will be promptly notified. Upon receipt of a check or money order made payable to the “California Department of Parks and Recreation” in the amount of the total cost of duplication, we will forward the requested records to you.

Alternatively, if the responsive documents are available electronically, and such records are of reasonable size and can be transmitted over email without difficulty, State Parks will do so at no charge. However, if the volume and/or size of the documents prohibit them from being easily transmitted over electronic mail, State Parks can produce the responsive records on a compact disk at a minimal cost. Once the documents have been gathered, assembled, reviewed for responsiveness and are ready for production, you will be notified of the method of production and the costs of such production.

Please note that State Parks will make every effort to provide you with responsive records as soon as feasible.

Sincerely,
