Communications

From: Jonathan Cohn

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, §10, I hereby request the following records:

(1) Any communication, electronic or written, sent or received by City of Boston employee Kate Norton between October 1, 2014, and January 6, 2015, relating to Boston's 2024 Summer Olympics bid.

(2) Any communication, electronic or written, sent or received by an employee of the Mayor's Office of the City of Boston in communication with Kate Norton of CK Strategies between January 7, 2015, and May 31, 2015, relating to Boston's 2024 Summer Olympics bid.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Cohn

From: Mayor's Office

Hi Jonathan,

Please find attached a Google drive link with the Kate Norton emails that you requested.  Due to technical issues on our end, there are 599 emails that include the "google-alerts" that we had tried to remove.  There are numerous personal cell phone and email addresses redacted throughout.  If for any reason there are attachments to the emails that were not included (likely due to size), please let me know and I can send them to you if you would like to review them.

Now for our usual issue:  I have withheld nine (9) emails that were sent to and/or circulated with counsel that discuss and/or seek legal advice regarding the Olympics bid and a disclosure filed by the Mayor (which is publicly available).  It is my position that these emails are exempt from disclosure because they contain attorney-client communications.

Feel free to call or email me if you have any questions.  I am working on getting Linehan and JR II to you as quickly as possible.

Also, if you have trouble viewing these, please let me know.

Best regards,

Caroline
