From: Jonathan Fertig

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, §10, I hereby request the following records:

All information and communications related to the resident parking permit program. I’d like to have real data on how many permits have been issued in each year for the last 3 years, how many permits are currently out, how many will be up for renewal in FY2018, and what the cost has been for producing, processing, and distributing the resident parking permits over the last 3 years, as well as the cost in signage, staff time, and third party consultant time, if any, devoted to maintaining existing resident parking permit areas and creating new ones over the last 3 years.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Fertig

Dear Mr. Fertig,

Your Public Records Request dated April 9, 2017, with regard to the City of
Boston Resident Parking Program was brought to my attention.

Per your request, the Boston Transportation Department will work to gather
data on:
-the number of permits that have been issued in each year for the past
three years;
-the number of permits that are currently active; and,
-the number of permits that will be up for renewal in FY18.

BTD will also work to provide you with the cost of producing resident
parking permits as well as the cost of resident parking signage over the
past three years.

There will be no charge to you for the above information as it is
anticipated to take no more than two hours to gather and it can be supplied
electronically.

However, supplying you with the cost of staff time is problematic as BTD
staff involved in the Resident Parking Program have a variety of other
responsibilities related to either public inquiries and/or fabricating and
posting signs.

Best,
Tracey Ganiatsos
