To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

1) The total number of firearms reported stolen to your department in 2015.

2) The total number of firearms reported stolen from motor vehicles to your department in 2015.

I submitted on July 21 and 22 requests for police reports related to the theft of firearms from motor vehicles and asking for the total number of automobile burglaries in 2015. If you have not already completed that request, please complete this one first if possible.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Ben Hallman

Ben,

Attached is the requested information. Please note: what we're able to provide are firearms that were "lost or stolen."

In the original request, we provided BOVs with "lost/stolen" firearm, so it's probably more likely that the gun was stolen because it was involved in an offense. With this request, we're providing lost/stolen guns, with or without a criminal offense, so it may be more likely that the gun could have been lost.

Thanks! Just to be sure, you said with my other request -- the one for reports of larceny from motor vehicles where a firearm was stolen -- that there were 305 such reports. Does that mean that of the 867 reports of lost or stolen firearms, 305 of those were from vehicles?

Not sure if I sent you the excel spreadsheet or the PDF. Hope this one clarifies your question

Ivan
