Augusta, Georgia Larceny from MVs/firearms

Brian Freskos filed this request with the Augusta Police Department of Augusta, GA.
Est. Completion None

From: Ben Hallman

In addition to the police reports, I would like to request the following data:

The number of gun thefts reported to the Augusta Police in 2013, 2014, 2015, and in the first six months of 2016 (January to June). All I need are figures for this portion the request.

From: Ben Hallman

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Police reports for every larceny from a motor vehicle in which a firearm was stolen and/or motor vehicle break-in/burglary in which a firearm was stolen in 2015.

I want to see all the information contained in each police report, including, but not limited to, the time and location of each crime; the criminal's method of entry; the make and model of the vehicle; descriptions of what was stolen and where from inside the vehicle each item was stolen; victims' names, ages, addresses and contact information; and the narrative summary of what happened.

If this data is collated in a digital file or database, providing the results of a search query that yields this information would be an acceptable substitute to physical copies of the reports.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office is in receipt of your Open Records Request. I understand that you are searching for copies of reports as it relates to weapons being stolen from motor vehicles. If this is incorrect, please advise. However, after careful review, it has been learned that the Richmond County Sheriff's Office does not have a category titled, "Weapons stolen from motor vehicles." What we do have are cases involving, "Theft of a weapon" and "Entering an Auto."

Would you be interested in these two types of crimes??

Yes please send what you can for 2015.

I believe you and spoke on the telephone and I was able to bring you up to date that the Richmond County Sheriff's Office does not categorize stolen weapons in an entering an auto case. The inventory of an entering an auto case would be in the narrative. We do however, have a category for "Theft by taking a weapon" or "Theft of a Weapon"................ But not what you are requesting.

From: Ben Hallman

Yes! You're right. Sorry for the confusion. I've been working so much on this story I've forgotten what's what. Thank you for your help. I'm going to mark this request as withdrawn.
