Dear Records Office,
Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
The number of guns reported stolen each year from 2005 to 2015, and the number of guns reported stolen from January 2016 to June 2016.
The number of guns reported stolen from motor vehicles each year from 2005 to 2015, and the number of guns reported stolen from motor vehicles from January 2016 to June 2016.
I am trying to see whether gun thefts from all sources have changed over time, whether gun thefts from vehicles have changed over time, and what percentage of total thefts occur from vehicles. This is related to a previous request from The Trace that sought incident reports related to thefts from motor vehicles, a request your office has been very helpful with and is almost completed.
The requested figures will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail if possible.
Brian Freskos, The Trace
Just so you know, per Mr. Hallman(s) request, which we were able to narrow down, the total for the thefts from auto narrowed down to where guns were taken for just 2015 came to about $920.00, now if you're adding an additional 9 years roughly you would be looking at $8,220.00 for your request, now that's just the estimate using 2015 numbers, as through the years the numbers could go up and down. Prior to starting this request we would need to receive half of the total cost.
Ok, One of your colleges Ben Hallman filed a request about gun thefts from vehicles. The reports he requested are ready for pick up. He wanted them mailed to New York so when we receive the check they will be mailed out. Please get in touch with him about this request.
