To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

1) The total number of firearms reported stolen to your department in 2015.

2) The total number of firearms reported stolen from motor vehicles to your department in 2015.

I submitted on July 21 and 22 requests for police reports related to the theft of firearms from motor vehicles and asking for the total number of automobile burglaries in 2015. If you have not already completed that request, please complete this one first if possible.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Ben Hallman

Mr. Hallman,

I am in receipt of your email regarding your open records request related to motor vehicle burglaries. I sent a cost estimate in the mail for your original request. In the event you did not receive the cost estimate, I have attached another copy for your convenience. The cost estimate includes the cost to produce police reports for motor vehicle burglaries where a firearm was stolen.

Pursuant to the email that you sent you also requested the following:

1) The total number of firearms reported stolen to your department in 2015.

2) The total number of firearms reported stolen from motor vehicles to your department in 2015.

It is my understanding that in this recent request you are only requesting for the number of firearms stolen and not for the report associated with each case. I am working on preparing that list for you and will send it to you as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by replying to this email address or calling the number below. Thank you.

Hi Dawn,

Thank you for sending this. Why are there so many copies for this request? If the department could just provide the two numbers -- total firearms stolen from all sources (homes, businesses, cars, etc) in 2015 and total firearms stolen from cars in 2015.

From: Dawn Roberts

Mr. Hallman,

Here is the information responsive to your request:

1. Total number of firearms reported stolen in 2015 - 601

2. Total number of firearms reported stolen from a motor vehicle in 2015 - 194

This should fulfill your request. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.

RE: Public Records Request for Police records
Dear Ben Hallman,
A Cost estimate letter was mailed to you on August 4th, but was returned due to an incorrect address.
Attached is the Cost Estimate Letter.  Please contact me if you would like to make a deposit to begin the work on your request.
Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:Police reports for every motor vehicle break-in and/or larceny from a motor vehicle that occurred in 2015. I want to determine how many vehicle break-ins occurred in your jurisdiction and basic information about each, including what, if anything, was stolen. I want to see all the information contained in each police report, including, but not limited to, the time and location of each crime; the criminal's method of entry; the make and model of the vehicle; descriptions of what was stolen and where from inside the vehicle each item was stolen; victims' names, ages, addresses and contact information; and the narrative summary of what happened. If this data is collated in a digital file or database, providing the results of a search query that yields this information would be an acceptable substitute to physical copies of the reports. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes. In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.Sincerely,Ben Hallman
