From: Ava Sasani

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All grant reporting documents submitted to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) between 2017 and 2019 about this agency’s use of the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) grant.

This organization was listed as by the DHS as a CVE grant recipient here:
https://www.dhs.gov/cvegrants
https://www.dhs.gov/publication/cve-grants-awarded

On the DHS web page listed above, there are quarterly summary updates that say this organization “is developing and delivering an engagement program to strengthen partnerships between the recipient and the Muslim community in Arlington. The recipient has previously created and sustained an engagement program that is responsive to the city’s residents, and this effort will extend those efforts based on recommendations of a Duke University study on the role of community policing in CVE. The project will focus on international terrorist organizations most often targeting American Muslim youth. “

I would like all documents submitted to the DHS about this engagement program. What does it do, how is it responsive to the city’s residents?

These documents should include any financial statements and documents explaining how your $47,497 CVE grant from the DHS (in 2017) has been spent on the survey instrument or any other projects that seek to limit violent extremism. This should include at least one report for each quarter since 2017 explaining deliverables and progress to the DHS.

Should you have any questions or concerns about my request, I am willing to discuss and clarify over the phone. Please reach me at 781-941-0829.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Ava Sasani
