To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the state Freedom of Information Act, G.L.M. c.4, €7, clause 26th, I hereby request the following records:
A log of all outgoing calls from City Hall between 5:35 - 11 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2010.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Tom Nash/PostSomerville.com

Mr. Nash: On behalf of IT Director Karthik Viswanathan and City Clerk John Long, I am responding to your request of Friday November 12th below. Mr. Viswanathan’s staff is in the process of determining if there are records that would be responsive to your request for “a log of all outgoing calls from City Hall between 5:35 - 11 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2010.” He anticipates it may be next week before he has that answer. We will contact you at that time. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Nash: I have received the telephone log for all outgoing calls from City Hall between 5:35 - 11 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2010. However, as unpublished numbers are exempt from the public records law, and we are not as yet able to determine which, if any, of the dialed numbers may be unpublished, I am not presently able to release the log to you.
Should you wish to narrow the scope of your request, i.e. to a particular number(s) or called party/ies, that may allow us to more promptly provide you with the information you are seeking. Thank you.

If it helps, we're specifically interested in calls to or from the Civil Service Commission or state HRD.
Thanks!
